An informative speech is not a persuasive speech in disguise. You are not closing a sale. You are making one process, object, or event understandable.
Dokie's 300+ list repeats "history of X" until the page is a keyword farm. Pick a slice: how it works, how it changed, or what a beginner gets wrong.
- Narrow to a process, a comparison, or a "how it actually works." Avoid "everything about climate."
- One audience, one time box. A 6-minute talk supports about 4 facts, not 20.
- Source as you go: one primary source and two explainers beat 15 blogs.
- Structure: hook, definition, 3 chunks, recap. Do not save the definition for slide 8.

How to pick
Ask: can I teach this without arguing that people should do something? If you keep slipping into "should," it is persuasive. Try debate topics instead.

Research path
For any topic: one primary source (agency, paper, statute), two explainers, one diagram you can redraw. If you cannot name the primary source, pick another topic.
Worked example: pulse oximeters and skin tone
- Hook: "The fingertip number can look fine while the patient is not."
- Definition: a pulse oximeter estimates oxygen from light through the finger.
- Chunk A: how red vs infrared absorption is converted to SpO2.
- Chunk B: FDA and journal evidence that darker skin can bias readings high.
- Chunk C: people mix this up with "the device is racist on purpose." The issue is calibration and testing sets.
- Recap: check with a blood gas when it matters; do not treat 92% as gospel.
